Library Cards & Borrowing Info

Welcome to our library. We're glad you've joined us!

Residents of Parkland School District, which includes North Whitehall, South Whitehall and Upper Macungie Townships, and residents of ward 17, 4th district and ward 18, 2nd district, both of Allentown, are eligible for library cards and the privileges the card offers. Applicants must provide official proof of residence, such as a driver's license or piece of mail, in person. There are no age limits; however, DVDs and videos can only be checked out with an adult (18 years and older) library card.

Available Materials

Available materials with a library card. Best sellers, classics, informational, recreational, books on CDs, DVDs, music CDs, video games, talk totes, magazines in print and online, newspapers in print and online, downloadable audiobooks and ebooks, great courses on CD and DVD, online databases, color and black & white computer printer, and photocopier.

Loan Periods

  • Entertainment DVDs and Video Games - 1 week
  • Educational (non-fiction) DVDs - 3 weeks
  • New Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction - 2 weeks
  • All other materials - 3 weeks (limit of 3 items per holiday)
  • Limit 4 video games per family, per loan period


You may renew most items twice unless someone has requested the item. You may renew items at the circulation desk, by telephone: 610-398-1361 or online by clicking "My Account" and following the directions.

Requests for Materials

You may place a hold (reserve) on any item (with the exception of reference material) in person, by phone, or through the website. Find your item in the catalog, click on “place hold," and enter your library card number and PIN. The item will be held for you for up to 3 days.

Statewide Card

The Parkland Community Library is a participant in the statewide program of public libraries sharing materials. With your library card and its ACCESS sticker, you may borrow materials directly from other Pennsylvania public libraries. The other libraries will require proper identification to issue you one of their cards.

Book drop

A 24-hour book drop is located on the south wall of the building. There is also a book drop located at North Whitehall Township for your convenience.

Overdue Items

If an item becomes overdue, you will receive a courtesy reminder after 3 weeks. Fines will continue to accrue until you return it. If you have not returned it within 6 weeks, you will be billed for its replacement and processing. If you have a total of more than $10.00 in charges, your library card may be suspended.

Late Fees by day:

  • Most items - 15 cents
  • Children's books - 10 cents
  • DVDs and Video Games - 50 cents

Lost or Damaged Items

  • Adult book -- $20.00 (paper- $5.00)
  • Children's book -- $17.00 (paper-$5.00)
  • DVDs -- $20.00
  • Music CD -- $15.00 (YS - $12.00)
  • Book on CD -- $40.00 (YS - $40.00)
  • Video Game -- $50.00
  • Talk Totes -- $50.00
  • Talk Tote Jr -- $15.00 + Plus Item processing fee -- $3.00

Lost Borrower Card

  • Replacement - $1.00 Please notify the library if you lose your card.

Non-Resident Cards

$40 per household

Vacation Loans

You may request a 6-week loan period for items not in high demand.

*Special note for parents:

Parents are responsible for the care and use of library materials by their children and for the conduct of their children in the library. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

How can I pay for my fines?

The Library will accept cash, money orders, cashier checks or personal checks for the payments of fines and fees. If a check is returned for any reason, the Library will assess a processing fee of $25 on the patron’s library account.
